Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

For some years now, Prime Horizontal has contributed a percentage of every dollar received to Doctors without Borders, Medecins sans Frontiers. As an international company, when looking for a social cause for contributions, I considered that the work done by these doctors, in many of the worlds most difficult areas in times of emergencies, was the perfect fit for Prime. We are proud to place their contact information on our site to take you direct to their website should you wish to know more about them or wish to contribute yourselves.

Shock Tooling for Motor Drilling is Now Provided

Prime Horizontal is proud to announce the provision of shock tooling for motor drilling for HDD applications for sale or rental. Our rental fleet of shock tools are all serviced in-house by our specialist and experienced technicians based in Beverwijk, Netherlands. The use of shock tools when drilling with a mud motor reduces vibration on the drill string and helps keep a constant weight on bit. This reduces shocks to the drill bit which prolongs bit life and optimizes the rate of penetration.

Four intersects for a CBM Project in Scotland are Completed

Prime Horizontal is pleased to announce the recent successful completion of 4 active ranging intersects for a coal bed methane (CBM) project in Scotland using the Rotating Magnetic Ranging System (RMRS). A previous test well completed in 2012 was the first such active ranging intersect in the British Isles, and was the first use of this technology for a CBM project in Europe. The four intersects were completed in under two weeks, which represents a considerable time saving for the client compared to the alternative technology that involves passive ranging and sidetracks to make the intersect.

New Offices in India and Brazil are Opened

Prime Horizontal continues to open new operations’ offices in regions where the company has an existing presence and in which business levels are high. Continuing to offer a unified set of products and services in the HDD industry throughout the world has driven the company’s decision to launch two new offices, one in Salvador, Brazil, and one in Delhi, India.

The expansion in our list of services for the HDD industry includes pipeline mapping with GyroTrack, the most versatile and unique multi-purpose, multi-diameter pipeline mapping system available in the world, and ProData, our drilling rig data measurement and transmission system, purpose built for Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Rigs. Together with our crossing services, built around ParaTrack-2 and the introduction of new downhole tooling such as wireline spiders, the risks associated with HDD projects are materially reduced.

Intersect Drilling Pioneered by Prime Horizontal

Since 2003 Prime has pioneered underground intersect drilling, in which pilot holes are drilled from both the entry side of a crossing and the exit side of a crossing usually simultaneously with two drill rigs and meet underground in the middle of the track. To date Prime’s track record is a 100% success rate having completed more than 50 intersect projects, setting several world records along the way. Prime has completed intersect projects with heavy gravels on both sides of a crossing, to lower annular pressures in alluvial formations and to complete long reach HDD projects (more than 1,000 meter lengths).

Prime Horizontal Introduces New ProData Service

Prime Horizontal has developed a cost effective system, called ProData, specifically for the HDD industry for measuring drilling parameters and displaying them at the rig and in client offices. This system is designed to eliminate the gap between on-site operations and office management. The basic sensor package consists of the measurements of push/pull, torque, carriage position and speed, drill rotational speed and mud pressure at the rig. Rig data are sent from a GPRS modem to a highly secure database. A separate server, linked to this database, acts as the web portal to the client. The client interface is extremely user friendly and customizable.

Prime Horizontal Milestones

Since its inception, Prime Horizontal has been the driver, co-developer with Vector pilot Magnetics and the prime user of the ParaTrack system for the steering of HDD holes. Prime Horizontal continues to be a prime driver for new developments of ParaTrack and for new uses for ParaTrack in the HDD market. As a result, Prime Horizontal is considered an authority on the use of the ParaTrack system in all horizontal directional drilling applications, and has set several world records for HDD projects.

Following are several milestones in the history of Prime Horizontal since 1998:

1998 Prime Horizontal (Prime) and Vector Magnetics (Vector) enter a co-development agreement to commercialize new steering methodology for the HDD market originally developed by Vector for the downhole oilfield market.
April 1999 Prime successfully completes first ParaTrack HDD feasibility project in France.
1999 Prime adds product line of DDI Rock Reamer Hole Openers and maintained inventory in UK from 4” through 62”
August 1999 Prime successfully completes first 3 commercial ParaTrack-1 projects of three 1,100 meter crossings using a guidewire installed inside a 36” steel product pipe within a 3 meter corridor.
September 2000 Prime introduces ParaTrack-2 system by guiding a crossing in Falmouth Harbor.
November 2000 Prime successfully completes a ParaTrack-2 project in Holland where a number of redrills by competition were caused by heavy magnetic Interference.
Mid 2001 Prime successfully guides the first planned underground intersect in Holland, proving the value of the technique.
2001 Prime adds the Lo-Torque Hole Opener to its products and maintains inventory in Holland from 6” through 64”
April 2001 Prime successfully guides the first hard rock underground intersect in France by introducing Vector’s Rotating Magnetic Source to the market.
November 2002 Prime Introduces Vector’s Pressure While Drilling (PWD) tool to the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) market to avoid mud overpressures downhole.
June 2003 Prime successfully guides the fourth planned underground intersect, the first in the U.S.A.
August 2003 Prime replaces competition in Alaska where ParaTrack-2 is used to steer with the guidewire offset more than 200 feet Away.
November 2003 Prime Introduces to the HDD market in Europe the AC Beacon—the first surface wireless magnetic source.
2004 Prime begins production and sale of large diameter Split Bit Hole Openers from 36” through 64”
